February 1st, 2010

¡Hola!

I start writing about two hours ago but the power went out in the whole building so we are at a different place now trying again. It was probably because the kids on the computers next to me were playing warcraft and it was too much of a temptation so God just shut the whole thing down...

This week has been amazing! I love my new companion, he is amazing! Elder Grenko, he is another small guy. About 6 foot 2 inches and 250lbs haha. He has been out a year and a half and I’m only his 7th companion and this is his 5th area. He is way smart and his spanish is probably better than most of the people here.

I don’t know why but as soon as he got here we have had a bunch of bible bashing opportunities. We think its because my companion has something to learn before he goes home and boy have we learned a lot. Luckily for me I don’t know anything from the bible so I just bare testimony of the Book of Mormon.

Our best one was with the 7th day Adventists (I think that’s what it is in English.) Does that religion exist in the states? I had never heard of it but they are pretty popular here. They believe lots of good things but always tell us no other religion can be true because it says in the bible 20 times that the day of rest is the 7th day. To me it doesn’t matter because it just depends on what calendar you use.

We have 7 baptismal dates planned at the moment and we got 4 other investigators close to that. I have really seen this area change a lot. I really know the people and area well now. We have a goal of 10 baptisms this transfer. If we can get some people married we might even have more than that.

Our investigator Maxi who is supposed to be baptized the 27 recently started having some problems with his girlfriend and they are not sure they want to get married. My companion told him when we put the baptismal date and the marriage date that if they waited a long time it would just give satan time to ruin things, and sure enough it is happening. So we have been doing some marriage counseling.

We have had quite a few service opportunities and have much more planned in the future. We have also decided because we have found so much opposition from other churches that we really have to start working with the members. Lately for lunch we have been sharing the restoration with the members and giving different challenges of ways to help us. We really need their help. So many times we have investigators that start talking to us but stop after they talk to a pastor or amigo from a different church. Or lots of times we will be talking to someone and a car will drive by and say something to get them to stop listening to us.

I really do love it haha! the persecution and opposition, It actually strengthens my testimony. I’m learning tons daily and am really excited for the new transfer here. Love you all and hope your doing great :)
