New week 11-8-10

Hola Familia

This week went by super fast! We missed one day of work and 2 nights of sleep because we had to do the 10 hour monthly trip to Neuquén for our meeting with the mission president. The weather has been a little weird here. Its rained a couple days and yesterday was really cold and windy. Everyone here says the weather is never like that this time of year. This is the last week of the transfer. One of the sister missionaries is going home this transfer meaning she is now calling even more often than normal to tell us about their problems.

We found a cool new family this week. A while back I told you about how the mission is being changed. That we are going 100% spirit, we are suppose to teach without talking. Basically only listening and asking "inspired questions." Investigators are suppose to teach themselves. It’s pretty cool and really worked with this new family. This family is a part member family that has been taught by missionaries quite a few times. We just listened and asked questions. There was quite a bit of silence and eventually the mom, who is the non-member, started crying. The whole family came to church on Sunday and even had the 9 month old daughter presented. We still have to work with them but we have definitely taken a big step.

Another family is a less-active family we have been visiting. This past week the dad was hit on his motorcycle by the boyfriend of his ex-wife. He got pretty beat up but it got him and the whole family to come to church yesterday. He even bore his testimony. I think the reason he came is because the ward here is so awesome! Many members went and visited the family when they heard about the accident.

Testimony meeting was amazing yesterday. I feel like because we visit and talk with a lot of the people that bore their testimonies, that the testimonies are extra special for us. Like we know all the inside stories of their testimonies. It’s so cool! One was of the new convert families that I told you about a while ago. How the family was going through some hard times because they didn’t have work and they were asking why God wouldn’t he help them. They had decided to stop going to church and that day they made the decision is the day we showed up at their house and talked with them. Yesterday the mom bore her testimony and related that story. I felt like me and my companion understood better than everyone else how her testimony had grown.

Well that’s about all for this week. We have much potential here in this area so there are many stories to come. Dad you told me that I would learn how to listen because my new companion doesn’t talk a lot. Well I think I’m learning how to talk instead. He is just a really relaxed guy that is way awesome. I just wish he would talk more and express himself.

Love you all!

Elder Tryon
